The question

Who, what, where, when & why. These are the questions you have to ask yourself over & over again while working on a comic book page.

Who? Who are the characters appearing on the page.

What? What are said characters doing? What actions do they perform.

Where? This is the easiest to forget to do. Establish the location the action is taking place. Generic backgrounds that could pass for anywhere don't cut it. It doesn't have to be an exact location despite what some people would have you to believe. In fantasy settings you should have the freedom of imagination to come up with locations no one has ever seen before. Believability however is paramount. 90% of your storytelling comes into play here.

When? What time of day is it? What season?

Why? A sense of logic should come into play. What is the point of the page? This is a failing in a lot of the writing I see. Other than just the actions of the individuals to get from point A to point B, there needs to be an underlying purpose to a page. Rhyme & reason go hand in hand. How does one page connect to the next?

These are the things I'm thinking about lately. Drawing sequential art is hard.
